CMS Anesthesia base units: January 2022 release

The official CMS file behind our Anesthesia base units data, published January 2022 and in effect until CMS publishes a revision. The base units per anesthesia CPT code that anchor the anesthesia payment formula. Published irregularly — only when the units actually change, which is rare.

Files inside this release

The member files we parsed, exactly as recorded at ingest — row counts and checksums let anyone verify our copy against CMS's. Where the name is a link, it downloads the exact bytes we parsed, straight out of the CMS zip.

What the columns mean

CMS ships these files with minimal documentation, and both the column names and their order drift between releases — which is why we parse by header name, never by position. Any column position shown here is the one we recorded when parsing this release.

One row per anesthesia CPT code: the base units reflecting the procedure's complexity, which anchor the anesthesia payment formula before time units are added. CMS publishes this file irregularly — only when base units actually change, which is rare.

# Column What it means
1 Code The anesthesia CPT code (00100–01999 range).
2 Base units The complexity units for the procedure, summed with time units and multiplied by the locality's anesthesia conversion factor.
