# CPT 99183

> Medicare paid $112.44 for CPT 99183 in the office (non-facility) setting and $112.44 in a facility under the Q2 2019 Physician Fee Schedule, effective April 2019. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This price has been unchanged since Q1 2019, when it decreased 0.5%.

## What it is

The physician's attendance and supervision during a session of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, in which the patient breathes pure oxygen inside a pressurised chamber to drive far more oxygen than usual into the bloodstream and tissues. This code captures the doctor's part — assessing the patient beforehand, setting and adjusting the pressure and duration, and being on hand for complications such as ear barotrauma or oxygen toxicity — and not the chamber time itself, which the facility accounts for separately. It is reported once for each session attended.
