# CPT 99183

> Medicare paid $112.07 for CPT 99183 in the office (non-facility) setting and $112.07 in a facility under the Q4 2016 Physician Fee Schedule, effective October 2016. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This price has been unchanged since Q1 2016, when it decreased 1.0%.

## What it is

The physician's attendance and supervision during a session of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, in which the patient breathes pure oxygen inside a pressurised chamber to drive far more oxygen than usual into the bloodstream and tissues. This code captures the doctor's part — assessing the patient beforehand, setting and adjusting the pressure and duration, and being on hand for complications such as ear barotrauma or oxygen toxicity — and not the chamber time itself, which the facility accounts for separately. It is reported once for each session attended.
