# CPT 95819

> Medicare paid $414.31 for CPT 95819 in the office (non-facility) setting and $414.31 in a facility under the Q4 2015 Physician Fee Schedule, effective October 2015. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This is a 0.5% increase from the previous quarter.

## What it is

An electroencephalogram, the recording of the brain's electrical activity through electrodes pasted to the scalp, captured in both the waking and the sleeping state during the same session. Sleep is included deliberately because some abnormal electrical patterns only surface as the brain drifts down, so a waking-only trace can miss them. Standard activation steps such as deep rapid breathing and a flashing strobe light are usually included. What sets this study apart from its siblings is the requirement that both states actually be recorded, not just attempted.
