# CPT 94729

> Medicare paid $55.14 for CPT 94729 in the office (non-facility) setting and $55.14 in a facility under the Q1 2016 Physician Fee Schedule, effective January 2016. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This is a 0.4% decrease from the previous quarter.

## What it is

A test of how well oxygen crosses from the air sacs into the bloodstream. The patient takes in a single deep breath containing a trace of carbon monoxide, holds it for about ten seconds, then blows out; the amount of that gas absorbed shows how effectively the lung membrane and the blood supply behind it are working. It is done alongside other pulmonary function testing in the same sitting rather than on its own, so it is recorded in addition to the main breathing study.
