    "description": "The same goal as the sealed-booth test - measuring total lung capacity and the air remaining after a full exhale - but reached by a different route. The patient breathes a tracer gas mixture, usually helium, or breathes pure oxygen to wash nitrogen out of the lungs, and the machine works out lung volume from how much the gas is diluted or how much nitrogen comes back. It can also show how evenly air distributes through the lungs. Because it only measures air that the tracer gas can actually reach, it can underestimate volume when airways are badly blocked.",
