# CPT 93458

> Medicare paid $1,088.73 for CPT 93458 in the office (non-facility) setting and $1,088.73 in a facility under the Q1 2015 Physician Fee Schedule, effective January 2015. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This is a 0.5% increase from the previous quarter.

## What it is

A diagnostic cardiac catheterization done through an artery in the wrist or groin. A thin catheter is steered up to the heart, contrast dye is injected into the coronary arteries and filmed so narrowings show up as constrictions in the dye column, and the catheter is also passed into the left ventricle to record pressures and, when performed, to film the main pumping chamber. This is the standard way to establish whether chest pain comes from blocked coronary arteries and how bad the blockages are.
