# CPT 93356

> Medicare paid $41.17 for CPT 93356 in the office (non-facility) setting and $12.21 in a facility under the Q2 2021 Physician Fee Schedule, effective April 2021. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This price has been unchanged since Q1 2021, when it increased 1.0%.

## What it is

An extra analysis performed on a heart ultrasound that measures how much the heart muscle itself stretches and shortens with each beat, by tracking the natural speckle pattern of the muscle frame by frame in software. It detects weakening earlier than judging the ejection fraction by eye, because strain starts to fall while the overall pumping numbers still look normal. A common use is serial monitoring of patients on cancer drugs known to injure the heart.
