## What it is

An add-on to a heart ultrasound that paints moving blood onto the gray-scale image in color, with the color indicating which way the blood is travelling and roughly how fast. It makes leaking valves, abnormal jets, and holes between chambers visible at a glance, and it tells the operator exactly where to aim the Doppler beam for precise velocity measurement. It is an overlay on the same scan, not a separate examination.
