# CPT 93312

> Medicare paid $309.35 for CPT 93312 in the office (non-facility) setting and $309.35 in a facility under the Q4 2016 Physician Fee Schedule, effective October 2016. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This price has been unchanged since Q1 2016, when it decreased 0.1%.

## What it is

An ultrasound of the heart taken from inside the swallowing tube, which runs directly behind the heart. Under sedation, a thin flexible probe is passed through the mouth and down the throat, giving far sharper views of the valves, the upper chambers, and any clot or growth than scanning through the ribs and lung can achieve. This version covers the entire service by one physician: placing the probe, capturing the images, and interpreting them in a written report.
