# CPT 88360

> Medicare paid $135.87 for CPT 88360 in the office (non-facility) setting and $135.87 in a facility under the Q2 2015 Physician Fee Schedule, effective April 2015. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This price has been unchanged since Q1 2015, when it increased 4.5%.

## What it is

The pathologist's measured scoring of an immunohistochemistry stain on a tumor, where the answer needs to be a graded result rather than simply present or absent. Rather than reporting that a marker stained, the pathologist estimates how strongly and in what proportion of tumor cells it stained, because treatment decisions depend on the degree. Hormone receptors and HER2 in breast cancer, and proliferation markers, are the usual subjects. This version is the one scored by a pathologist reading the slide directly; scoring done with computer-assisted image analysis is reported under a separate code.
