# CPT 88307

> Medicare paid $281.50 for CPT 88307 in the office (non-facility) setting and $281.50 in a facility under the Q3 2020 Physician Fee Schedule, effective July 2020. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This price has been unchanged since Q1 2020, when it increased 2.9%.

## What it is

A pathologist's examination of a larger or more demanding specimen than a simple biopsy, requiring careful dissection and orientation before slides are even made. It sits above the biopsy-level code in the same graded family and below the top level, which is reserved for the most complex cancer resections. Material at this level tends to be whole organs or substantial pieces of them, such as a kidney, a spleen, a segment of bowel removed for non-cancerous disease, a uterus removed for benign reasons, or regional lymph nodes.
