# CPT 86431

> Not at a published national rate. CPT 86431 carries status X (statutory exclusion) in the Q2 2021 release. The statutory definition of physician services does not include this item. Treat the blank amount as unpriced, not as $0.

## What it is

A blood test that measures how much rheumatoid factor is present, reporting an actual concentration rather than a simple positive or negative. Rheumatoid factor is an antibody directed against the body's own immunoglobulin, and elevated levels are associated with rheumatoid arthritis and several other conditions. Because it also rises in chronic infections, liver disease, and in some healthy older adults, it is interpreted alongside symptoms and more specific antibody tests.
