# CPT 85045

## What it is

Counts reticulocytes - the youngest red blood cells, still carrying leftover traces of RNA - as a share of the red cells in a sample. The number reveals how hard the bone marrow is working to replace red cells, which is the pivotal question when sorting out the cause of anemia. This code covers the automated instrument count rather than a technologist counting stained cells on a slide.
