# CPT 83090

> Not at a published national rate. CPT 83090 carries status X (statutory exclusion) in the Q3 2021 release. The statutory definition of physician services does not include this item. Treat the blank amount as unpriced, not as $0.

## What it is

Measures homocysteine, an amino acid that builds up in the blood when the body runs short of vitamin B12, folate, or vitamin B6, since those vitamins are what allow it to be broken down. It also rises in inherited disorders of that same metabolic pathway. Beyond vitamin status, a high level is treated as a marker of increased risk for clotting and vascular disease.
