## What it is

A blood sugar reading taken with the kind of small handheld glucose meter approved for people to use on themselves at home, rather than a sample sent to a laboratory analyzer. It is the familiar fingerstick: a drop of blood on a test strip, with a number on the screen in seconds. This code covers the meter reading done in a care setting, and it is distinct from laboratory glucose testing, which runs a drawn tube of blood on lab instruments and takes longer to resolve.
