## What it is

The simplest urine test: a reagent strip dipped into a urine sample and read by eye against a color chart, with no microscope step and no automated analyzer. It gives a quick read on protein, glucose, blood, ketones, nitrites, leukocyte esterase, specific gravity, and pH. What distinguishes it from its siblings is that nothing is examined under the microscope and the reading is manual rather than instrument-based - it is the most bare-bones member of the urinalysis family and one of the most frequently performed office tests of any kind.
