# CPT 77301

> Medicare paid $1,959.87 for CPT 77301 in the office (non-facility) setting and $1,959.87 in a facility under the Q2 2014 Physician Fee Schedule, effective April 2014. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment.

## What it is

The planning work behind intensity-modulated radiation therapy, where the strength of the beam is varied across the field so that dose wraps tightly around an irregular tumor while dropping off fast toward nearby organs. Planning is done backwards from the goal: the team specifies the dose the target must receive and the limits each critical structure must stay under, and the software solves for the beam intensities, producing dose-volume histograms for the target and every organ at risk. It takes substantially more computation and review than conventional 3D conformal planning.
