# CPT 76937

> Medicare paid $31.87 for CPT 76937 in the office (non-facility) setting and $31.87 in a facility under the Q3 2016 Physician Fee Schedule, effective July 2016. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This price has been unchanged since Q1 2016, when it decreased 2.5%.

## What it is

Use of ultrasound to guide a needle into a vein or artery while a catheter or line is being placed. The clinician scans the target vessel to pick the best puncture site, confirms the vessel is open and not clotted, and then watches the needle tip enter it live on screen instead of relying on landmarks and feel. A permanent image of the vessel is saved to document the guidance. It is reported alongside the line placement it supports, not on its own.
