## What it is

An ultrasound of the female pelvic organs taken with a slim probe placed inside the vagina rather than moved across the lower belly. Sitting close to the uterus and ovaries, the probe gives a much sharper picture of the uterine lining, ovaries, and surrounding tissue than a scan through the abdominal wall. This is the non-pregnancy version of the study; scans done to assess a pregnancy are reported with different codes.
