# CPT 74178

> Medicare paid $381.15 for CPT 74178 in the office (non-facility) setting and $381.15 in a facility under the Q3 2014 Physician Fee Schedule, effective July 2014. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment.

## What it is

A CT scan covering both the abdomen and the pelvis in which images are taken first without contrast and then again after intravenous dye is given. The unenhanced pass is what separates this from the simpler single-phase studies: it establishes a baseline so the radiologist can tell true enhancement from something that was already dense, such as a calcification, a bleed, or a stone. Abdomen-and-pelvis CT done with contrast only, or without contrast only, has its own codes.
