## What it is

Two plain radiographs of the abdomen taken from different positions - commonly one with the patient lying flat and one upright or on the side. The second view is what earns this code over the single-film study: air and fluid separate under gravity, so an upright or decubitus picture can reveal free air outside the bowel or the stepped fluid levels that suggest an obstruction. Larger series with three or more views, or with an added chest film, are coded separately.
