# CPT 72197

> Medicare paid $369.59 for CPT 72197 in the office (non-facility) setting and $369.59 in a facility under the Q3 2022 Physician Fee Schedule, effective July 2022. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This price has been unchanged since Q1 2022, when it decreased 5.0%.

## What it is

An MRI of the pelvis performed both without and then with contrast dye given through a vein, so the two sets of images can be compared. The pelvis here means the soft tissue contents - bladder, rectum, prostate or uterus and ovaries, and the surrounding muscle and bone. The dye highlights blood flow into abnormal tissue, which is what makes this the version chosen when a mass or an inflammatory process is the concern.
