# CPT 72125

> Medicare paid $158.07 for CPT 72125 in the office (non-facility) setting and $158.07 in a facility under the Q2 2020 Physician Fee Schedule, effective April 2020. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This price has been unchanged since Q1 2020, when it decreased 15.3%.

## What it is

A CT scan of the bones of the neck, sliced thinly and rebuilt into side and front reconstructions, done with no contrast dye. CT is the best test for cervical bone: it finds fractures, dislocations, and bone spurs that plain X-rays miss entirely, which is why it has largely replaced neck X-rays after serious trauma. Contrast versions of this code family exist but are used mainly when infection or tumor spread into surrounding soft tissue is the question; discs and the spinal cord are better seen on MRI.
