## What it is

A CT scan of the arteries running up the neck to the brain - mainly the carotid arteries and the vertebral arteries - captured while injected contrast dye is passing through them. As with other CT angiography, rebuilding the slices into three-dimensional vessel images and reading them is included. It is frequently done in the same sitting as the head study, since stroke workups usually need to see the whole path from the chest up into the brain.
