## What it is

An outpatient laser treatment aimed at the trabecular meshwork, the spongy drainage channel in the angle where the iris meets the cornea. Short laser pulses improve outflow of fluid from the eye and lower the pressure inside it. Modern practice mostly uses a low-energy selective laser that targets pigmented cells without burning surrounding tissue, so it can be repeated. It is done at a slit lamp through a mirrored contact lens, with numbing drops only - no incision and no operating room.
