# CPT 65778

> Medicare paid $1,388.85 for CPT 65778 in the office (non-facility) setting and $75.59 in a facility under the Q4 2014 Physician Fee Schedule, effective October 2014. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment.

## What it is

Placement of a piece of processed human amniotic membrane, the innermost layer of placental tissue, onto the surface of the eye as a biological bandage. The membrane is rich in factors that calm inflammation, limit scarring, and encourage the surface to heal over. This version is the self-retaining approach, held in place by a ring or the eye's own surface rather than fixed with sutures, which lets it be done in a clinic room rather than an operating room.
