## What it is

Placement of a stimulator electrode alongside a sacral nerve, threaded through one of the small openings in the sacrum at the base of the spine, done through the skin with x-ray guidance rather than open surgery. Stimulating these nerves changes the signalling between the bladder, bowel, pelvic floor, and brain. It is the sacral-specific counterpart to peripheral nerve electrode placement, and it covers the lead only, not the pulse generator.
