# CPT 57461

> Medicare paid $327.06 for CPT 57461 in the office (non-facility) setting and $196.31 in a facility under the Q3 2014 Physician Fee Schedule, effective July 2014. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment.

## What it is

A magnified exam of the cervix and nearby vaginal wall in which the clinician then removes a cone-shaped wedge of cervical tissue using a thin wire loop carrying an electrical current. The loop cuts and seals at the same time, so the tissue comes out intact for the pathology lab while bleeding stays controlled. Unlike a simple biopsy, this both diagnoses and treats — the abnormal area is removed rather than only sampled.
