# CPT 52601

> Medicare paid $761.39 for CPT 52601 in the office (non-facility) setting and $761.39 in a facility under the Q3 2018 Physician Fee Schedule, effective July 2018. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This price has been unchanged since Q1 2018, when it decreased 13.2%.

## What it is

The classic operation for an enlarged prostate: a resectoscope is passed up the urethra and an electrified wire loop shaves away the prostate tissue crowding the channel, chip by chip, until urine can flow freely again. The pieces are washed out, bleeding vessels are cauterized, and a catheter is left in for a day or two. This code covers the complete operation as a single unit, including the scope work, any stretching or opening of the urethra needed to get instruments in, and control of bleeding during the same session.
