## What it is

A scope is passed up the urethra into the bladder and a long needle is threaded through it to inject botulinum toxin into the bladder muscle at many points around the wall. The toxin partly quiets the nerve signals that make the bladder squeeze, so the muscle contracts less forcefully and less often. The effect wears off over months, so the treatment is usually repeated.
