# CPT 17003

> Medicare paid $5.72 for CPT 17003 in the office (non-facility) setting and $2.50 in a facility under the Q3 2015 Physician Fee Schedule, effective July 2015. These are the national allowed amounts before the ~2% sequestration cut and before locality (GPCI) adjustment. This price has been unchanged since Q1 2015, when it decreased 43.0%.

## What it is

Freezing, burning, or otherwise destroying precancerous skin spots, most often actinic keratoses caused by years of sun exposure, counting each lesion treated after the first one at a visit. The first lesion is reported with its own code, and this one is counted once per lesion for the ones that follow, up to a point where a different high-volume code takes over. Destruction means the lesion is killed in place rather than cut out and sent to a laboratory.
