## What it is

Anesthesia care for coronary artery bypass grafting performed with the patient supported on the heart-lung machine. The anesthesia team runs general anesthesia, places invasive monitoring lines, manages the transition on and off bypass, and often guides therapy with transesophageal echo. What separates it from the companion off-pump code is precisely that use of cardiopulmonary bypass, which stops the heart and takes over circulation while the grafts are sewn.
