# CPT 00172

> CPT 00172 is an anesthesia code, so Medicare has no single national rate: payment is (base units + time units) × the locality's anesthesia conversion factor — for example, about $219.95 for a 60-minute case in Dallas, TX under the Q1 2017 release, before sequestration.

## What it is

Anesthesia care for surgery that repairs a cleft palate, the gap in the roof of the mouth present from birth. It is usually performed in infancy, somewhat later than cleft lip repair, and calls for careful management of a small airway shared with the surgeon working inside the mouth.
