## What it is

Anesthesia care provided while a surgeon operates on the lens of the eye, most often cataract removal with an artificial lens implant. In practice this is usually monitored anesthesia care: sedation through an IV plus numbing drops or an injection around the eye, with the patient awake but comfortable and still rather than fully asleep. It is reported by the anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist, separately from the surgeon's own code for the eye operation. It differs from the general eye-surgery anesthesia code in that the operation here is specifically on the lens.
